“A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”

— former U.S. President James Madison, 1822

I truly believe in open and transparent government. Just as important, is the ability for the public to quickly and easily find access to public documents.

Click here to read an article that I recently wrote about open government in San José.

This topic has been extensively covered in the San Jose Mercury News. Click here to read a front page story written by San Jose Mercury News Executive Editor Susan Goldberg that was published on March 12, 2006 (Two weeks after my article referenced above was published). Click here for additional Mercury News items on open government in San Jose.

Demonstrating my commitment to practices of open government, I will post all public documents that pertain to this campaign openly on this page of the website. Every effort will be made to have the documents posted here as soon as practical after they are filed with the appropriate agency.

I hope that by taking this step of commitment to open government, others will follow suit. This will ensure that all interested parties have unfettered access to public documents.
